01:05 pm - rad pedagogy in computer classrooms
Do any of you teach in computer classrooms (where all students have a computer in front of them for the duration of the class session)? Any good ideas for implementingHow do you keep them engaged, and/or deal with resisitance in the form of surfing/chatting/emailing while class is in session?

I'm also interested in thinking some more about rad pedagogy in library/research instruction contexts, if there's anyone here who'd be interested in having some discussions around that.

a late response on this-- no real experience here except that I have been allowing laptops in my class and I wish I hadn't.

I wonder if you can bring the computing more forward-- like each person looks up a different thing, and maybe there is a shared chat room/bulletin board where they can share links so that they can talk about info and also make their classmates look at what they have found (if that makes sense). Something that involves them actually having to LOOK, for more than 2 seconds, at what is on-screen, so they can avoid IMing for a minute. ugh, I feel your pain though.
